Before I Read Hide and Seek

Before I read a book, I look at its cover. Despite what people say, you can tell a lot about a book based simply on what it looks like on the outside. Although you can't judge a story by its cover, the outward appearance of the book is what can draw you in and make you want to read it. I love talking about covers maybe as much as I love talking about the books themselves, so I started this feature that spotlights the covers of upcoming books I am excited to read.

Hide and Seek by Sara Shepard
Release: July 31, 2012
My friends and I used to play lying games.
Now my twin sister is living one. When I was alive, my family seemed picture-perfect. My adoptive parents adored me, and my little sister, Laurel, copied my every move. But now that my long-lost twin, Emma, has taken my place to solve my murder, we're both learning just how flawed my family really is. Laurel is shooting Emma nasty looks and sneaking around with my ex-boyfriend. And it turns out my parents are keeping a huge secret--could it be the reason I'm dead? How far would they go to keep the truth buried? No one can harm me now, but Emma is still fair game. And if she's not careful, she'll end up buried, too. . . .
I love the covers of these books, and, placing right after the third book, this is my second favorite so far. The thing I like best is the unnerving quality that it has. There is something a bit eerie about seeing the exact same face twice on one cover, not to mention the way her piercing stare makes me feel like she is watching me, almost.

The cover is able to pull this off while still remaining pretty as well as creepy. The intricate swirls around the title are simply gorgeous and very eye-catching! In this way, the cover really embodies the mood of the books, both glamorous and frightening.

I sincerely hope that these books continue to be everything their covers promise, even now that the author has chosen to draw out the series, adding more books than originally planned in an effort to make more money. The fourth Lying Game installment looks just as suspenseful as the first three, though, and I am more than excited to read it!

  1. Geez, she really puts out the books! It seems like every time I turn around she as another book out! I've read the first two book and it looks like I better get busy and read the third so I'm not TOO far behind!
I'm with you about covers. They ARE important! While I don't absolutely LOVE these covers, I think they fit and I love the colors. I also like that ALL her books match, even when they aren't in the same series.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I love to hear your thoughts, and I read every one. You just became one of my favorite people, so I will try to visit your blog in return.
