Recommend A... is a weekly meme hosted by Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit. It is meant to showcase good books don't always think to recommend to others, so every week we pick a book that falls into a certain category.
Today we are being asked to recommend a book we read on vacation. I tend to read large amounts of books while on vacation, but I chose Beauty Queens by Libba Bray because I never wrote a review for it but I feel that I absolutely must recognize it somehow.
The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.I didn't review this because it is a work of satirical genius to which I could never do justice. Libba Bray's spot-on sarcasm will not only make you laugh, but really make you reevaluate the way you see beauty. Beauty Queens is fantastic!
What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program - or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan - or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?
