Recommend A... Book You Read on Vacation

Recommend A... is a weekly meme hosted by Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit. It is meant to showcase good books don't always think to recommend to others, so every week we pick a book that falls into a certain category.

Today we are being asked to recommend a book we read on vacation. I tend to read large amounts of books while on vacation, but I chose Beauty Queens by Libba Bray because I never wrote a review for it but I feel that I absolutely must recognize it somehow.

The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.

What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program - or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan - or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?
I didn't review this because it is a work of satirical genius to which I could never do justice. Libba Bray's spot-on sarcasm will not only make you laugh, but really make you reevaluate the way you see beauty. Beauty Queens is fantastic!

  1. That is an awesome vacation read! I am excited to see Libba Bray on her Diviners tour next week...I need to speed read that 600 page book! Here are my vaca reads

  2. I haven't read this one yet. I will get to it before the end to the year! I will.

  3. I wasn't sure about it since I saw the cover, but I never even read the synopsis. WOW, it sounds great. And I do love sarcasm :)

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I love to hear your thoughts, and I read every one. You just became one of my favorite people, so I will try to visit your blog in return.
