Before I Read Dance of Shadows

Before I read a book, I look at its cover. Despite what people say, you can tell a lot about a book based simply on what it looks like on the outside. Although you can't judge a story by its cover, the outward appearance is what can draw you in and make you want to read it. I love talking about covers maybe as much as I love talking about the novels themselves, so I started this feature that spotlights these essential works of art.

Dance of Shadows by Yelena Black

Release: February 12, 2013
Dancing with someone is an act of trust. Elegant and intimate; you're close enough to kiss, close enough to feel your partner's heartbeat. But for Vanessa, dance is deadly – and she must be very careful who she trusts . . .

Vanessa Adler attends an elite ballet school – the same one her older sister, Margaret, attended before she disappeared. Vanessa feels she can never live up to her sister's shining reputation. But Vanessa, with her glorious red hair and fair skin, has a kind of power when she dances – she loses herself in the music, breathes different air, and the world around her turns to flames . . .

Soon she attracts the attention of three men: gorgeous Zep, mysterious Josh, and the great, enigmatic choreographer Josef Zhalkovsky. When Josef asks Vanessa to dance the lead in the Firebird, she has little idea of the danger that lies ahead – and the burning forces about to be unleashed . . .
This cover is certainly striking. I love the way the bright red of the model's costume contrasts with the darker background, creating a gorgeous, dramatic effect. Even better, though, is how effortless the dancer's pose looks; she seems to have a natural ability for fluid movement, which adds a touch of grace to this beautiful image. The cover for Dance of Shadows makes an impressive impact and I have high expectations for the words hiding behind it to do so as well.

  1. The cover is GORGEOUS. It's like every title that involves "shadows" is destined to be beautiful. I even like how there's 3 guys and not the cliche love triangle.

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I love to hear your thoughts, and I read every one. You just became one of my favorite people, so I will try to visit your blog in return.
