Top Ten Books in my Beach Bag this Summer

Hosted by the team over at The Broke and the Bookish, Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme for list-loving bloggers. Every Tuesday, participants compile a list of their favorite books, authors, or other literature-related things that fall under a certain category.

I use the phrasing of today's prompt loosely because I will not spend much time on an actual beach this summer. However, I will be traveling to California, and I plan to read a few books while soaking up more sunscreen than sun on the sandy west coast. Since I am a big believer in reading certain books during certain seasons, I have carefully planned out my list of summer books for summer reading. Here are a few of the titles I am going to pick up this summer—either on or off the beach.

1. Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid
I must read at least one road trip book every summer. It is practically a law.

2. Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn
The back cover of my ARC promises that this book "has everything that perfect beach reads are made of." Since the blurb sounds like so much fun and since Katie Finn is a pen name for Morgan Matson, I am sure this statement is true.

3. Since You Asked by Maurene Goo
A hilarious-sounding plot and multicultural characters will draw me in every time.

4. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
Something about this gorgeous, airy cover screams "summer" to me; it is going to be one of the first books I pick up after finals are over this week.

5. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Based on what I've heard about this book, I'll probably want to binge read it without school sponging up my time. I cannot wait to devour it within the span of a few days.

6. The Theory of Everything by Kari Luna
There is nothing like a book involving String Theory to keep my mind sharp for next school year. Without science classes bogging my mind down, I'll be able to fully enjoy the confusing conceptual aspect of this story.

7. License to Spill by Lisi Harrison
Lisi Harrison has a talent for writing engaging, addictive books, and this one's predecessor, Pretenders, is no exception. License to Spill will be the perfect summer read.

8. The Summer I Wasn't Me by Jessica Verdi
This summer story is sure to make me furious in the best possible way.

9. Vivian Divine is Dead by Lauren Sabel
Celebrities, kidnappings, and more are sure to keep me hooked on this debut that releases today.

10. You Look Different in Real Life by Jennifer Castle
I never watch reality TV, but I love books about it—especially during the summer.

What are you planning on reading this summer? Let me know in the comments. And be sure to enter to win a copy of Panic by Lauren Oliver in the giveaway I am currently running!

  1. I haven't heard of any of the books you listed but they all look pretty great! =)

  2. The Summer I Wasn't Me is high on my TBR :) Also hearing good things about We Were Liars!

  3. I've heard of some of these but haven't had the chance to read them yet, so many books and so, so little time!!!

  4. Nice list. I love To All the Boys I've Loved Before and would definitely encourage you to pick it asap.

  5. I looking forward to many of the titles on your list, especially To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I've got We Were Liars queued on audio, hopefully it's great.

  6. Let's Get Lost is something I've heard about and really want to read! It sounds so great! And To All The Boys I've Loved Before is actually next on my TBR list. Considering I'm using it to help me with a huge book hangover I know is gonna happen soon. Nice list!

  7. Hearing a lot of good things about All the Boys who Loved Me. Hope you enjoy it, too - and I'll be curious to know what you think! :)

  8. Great list! I hope you'll enjoy them all :)

  9. I hope your finals go well, and enjoy To All the Boys I've Loved Before! :) I adored it; it's beyond cute. I'm excited for Let's Get Lost as well, and I can't wait to read We Were Liars!

  10. I agree with your law of a road trip book in the summer. I want to read Let's Get Lost oh so very much. I think The Summer I Wasn't Me would really frustrate me as well...but in a good way. YES READ SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE. So good. To All the Boys was good too, not exactly what I was expecting. Fantastic list as always :)

  11. I have Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend on hold at the library, looking forward to it a lot! I want to read We Were Liars eventually, just because I have read a lot of mixed opinions about it and am wondering what I will think about it. I haven't read Pretenders, but would like to! :)

Have fun reading all these books, Emily! :)

  12. I've read both The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and The Summer I Turned Pretty series, and I love both of them! I'm really looking forward to reading We Were Liars and To All the Boys I've Loved Before! =)

  13. We Were Liars was great! I hope you love it too. I do want to read some summer-y type of books this season.

  14. I also have License to Spill in my list! I really can't wait to read it because of how Pretenders ended.. I've also been meaning to read We Were Liars since I've read good things about it~

  15. I haven't read any of these, but there are a lot on your list I want to read, and I am going to have to check out the others. Great list!

  16. Let's get lost has a cute cover, but I find the text so confusing, haha. The first time I completely misread the title. The summer I wasn't mean sounds interesting. Happy reading :)

  17. Nice list, even though I haven’t read any of these. I intend to check out We Were Liars & To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before at one point – hopefully sooner rather than later.

The weather is already so hot here that I can barely concentrate on reading anything at all, so a few light summer reads would be perfect.

  18. I just requested Let's Get Lost yesterday. It sounds like the perfect Summer read!

    Great list!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I love to hear your thoughts, and I read every one. You just became one of my favorite people, so I will try to visit your blog in return.
